The Different Forms of Creatine

Creatine comes in many different forms but to keep it simple we will look at three basic forms. I will not be discussing forms as in pill, capsule or powder. This information could be helpful in making a decision is creatine good for you. What I will look at is the chemical refined state the creatine is in. We will concentrate on Creatine Monohydrate, Creatine-Ethyl-Ester and Kre-Alkalyn Creatine.
Creatine Monohydrate is the simplest form of creatine in the marketplace today. The formula is a single water molecule bound to the creatine itself. This is readily available to buy. It is the most commonly found. The product comes in a simple white powder. This supplement is used to mix into protein shakes or beverages. The result can be used in different ways: Pre-workout consumption for loading the muscle mass or drunk during the workout to maintain optimal levels of creatine in the muscle mass, or it can be taken even after a massive workout to help rebuild muscle mass. The monohydrate can be drunk with a mix of other quick acting carbs along with different insulin stimulators, all of which help in the building of muscle mass.

Creatine-Ethyl-Ester is a form of creatine where the molecules are bound to an ethyl ester group. This is different from the monohydrate which was bound to water. This type of creatine is built to work in our system in a different way. This form is designed to allow the creatine to pass into the muscle cells at a higher rate of efficiency. This allows for a dosage to be less than with the Monohydrate. This can result in less stomach distress. This type of product is found most often in a tablet or capsule.


Kre-Alkalyn Creatine is the last form we will look at. This is a very advanced supplement. It brings to the workout the benefits of creatine but with some true advantages. First it needs to be noted, this is a patented form of creatine. The main benefit of this supplement is that it is created with a better pH balance than the others. As a result this supplement will be stable in liquids and deliver greater amounts of the creatine to the muscle mass. Also, it will not break down into creatinine. This is a byproduct of the creatine being used in the muscles. This allows for a person to use less and receive the same result from using the monohydrate. The actual difference could be as much as using as little as 2 grams of the Kre-Alkalyn to 10-12 grams of the Monohydrate.
